Once In A Lifetime....

Having a drink at the beach bar at Aruba on our belated honeymoon when Jan asked me what was coming up the beach.....could`nt believe it when i saw a huge leatherback turtle coming in to lay her eggs.....

Only got a couple of quick shots before the restaurant lights were turned off so as not to disturb her....

We stayed for a good while watching her dig out her nest and lay her eggs....it`s amazing to get so close to something so spectacular.
         A dozen or so more nest sites had been closed off with barriers some 3/4 mile further along the beach,and 3 days later we had to leave our drinks again as we heard there was movement in the sand at one of the nests....luckily we got there before the crowd and had a prime position ....after 2 hours the ground started to erupt with baby turtles heading for the sea....a truly amazing sight.
